People-first retail wellbeing

See the
person first.

Behind every workplace role is a person.

Shirley's creates different ways for people in retail to move, talk, connect, feel supported and feel appreciated.

Why Shirley's exists

People working in retail can face pressures that are not always visible. These can include verbal abuse, threatening behaviour, aggression, harassment and physical violence, as well as wider workplace pressures.

Shirley's is interested in the person behind the role and in what happens afterwards. How has the experience affected their wellbeing, confidence or sense of safety? What might help them reconnect and move forward?

Shirley's is not here to investigate incidents or assign blame. It aims to complement existing employer and specialist support by providing additional routes into movement, conversation, confidence, connection, appreciation and appropriate support.

Difficult experiences are not the only reason someone might get involved. People may also want movement, connection, appreciation, confidence-building or general wellbeing support.

Shirley's is beginning locally in Solihull and the West Midlands.

Our values

  • PEOPLE

    See the person first.

  • TRUST

Earn it. Build it. Protect it.

  • RESPECT

    For yourself. For others.

  • COMMUNITY

    Bringing people together.

What we're building

Shirley's is developing a connected portfolio of programmes, services, events and digital activity. Some offers are being piloted or developed now, while others are longer-term possibilities. We are building with people in retail, listening, testing, learning and refining as we go.

Partner with us

Shirley's works with retailers and employers, retail destinations, local authorities, community organisations, professional partners, sponsors and funders. Partnerships can support participation, consultation, referrals, commissioning, sponsorship, venues, specialist pathways and collaborative wellbeing activity.

We see the person, listen to the impact and create different ways to reconnect and move forward.
